About Lakers Ringette:
The team meets at the first training camp in September to align on expectations and collaboratively establish the goals and objectives for the season. Our athletes play an integral role in developing this plan. As student-athletes, the team recognizes the importance of balancing academic commitments with team priorities.
The team has developed a schedule that includes practice weekly and regular dryland sessions in our state-of-the-art athletic center located on campus. The team has 2 to 3 weekend training camps throughout the season to prepare for upcoming events. The Lakers are affiliated with the West Ferris Ringette Association, the birthplace of ringette.
All players have the option to be placed on a team in the 18+-recreation division, where they have the opportunity to receive additional ice time once or twice a week. The team also actively gives back to the community by volunteering with the WFRA Learn to Skate program and goalie clinics.
The team competes in 2-3 tournaments and exhibition games each season, along with the Canadian University Challenge Cup Championships and the University division at the AA Provincials. I am incredibly proud of the team's growth over the past two seasons. We remain a competitive force, with a strong focus on continued development and improvement.
Nipissing Laker players receive all of the same benefits as Varsity athletes with access to the on-campus services such as the physiotherapy clinic, gym, weight room and cardio room. Nipissing has a unique situation where it shares a campus with Canadore College. Because of this, Canadore students are eligible to play on the Nipissing Ringette team.
About the Coaches:
The Nipissing Lakers are fortunate to have an experienced coaching staff made up of myself, Head Coach Jarett Kobe, Assistant Coach Erin Johns, Assistant Coach Kelsey Lecappelain and Goalie Coach Peter Baldasaro.
I have a long history with the Forest Ringette Association. I coached for over 15 seasons, winning a Provincial Championship and helped develop the A program in Forest. Erin Johns is a former player, having played competitively for many years. She has coached with the West Ferris Ringette Association, the Northeast Region AA program and the Ringette Ontario AAA program. Kelsey Lecappelain is a former AAA and Team Ontario goalie having played for her hometown West Ferris Ringette Association.
Peter Baldasaro has been a goalie coach within the West Ferris Association and has helped coach on Provincial Championship teams. Peter had the privilege of serving as the Goalie Coach for Team Sweden during the 2023 World Ringette Championships in November.
