PETS/ANIMALS ON CAMPUS

As we look forward to the start of another Lakers Athletics season and welcoming fans and visitors to campus, we wanted to provide some information regarding the University’s policy on pets/animals on campus.

Nipissing University is committed to the duty to accommodate, as outlined by the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC), as an essential part of fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment. The University’s Service Animal Policy provides helpful information on applicable legislation and requirements for both the handler and community.

Only designated service animals are permitted inside university buildings. Domestic animals and pets that are not designated service animals are not permitted in campus buildings. In the event a domestic animal or pet is reported to be in the building, the owner will be asked to remove the animal or pet. This ensures the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.

Please note, that as per the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODS), an Emotional Support Animal that solely provides comfort and security, unrelated to the functional impacts of a disability, is not recognized under the law and has no legal entitlements.

Domestic animals and pets are permitted in outdoor spaces on campus, provided they are leashed, however they are not permitted on the artificial turf field or adjoining bleacher areas.
