In a key, early season game, the Nipissing Lakers came up with a big victory.
The score wasn't big, but the importance of the win was, as they topped the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1 at Memorial Gardens Friday evening.
Three different goal scorers and a solid performance in net gave Nipissing the victory and the full three points.
After a scoreless first, the Lakers and Blues traded goals in the middle frame, sending the first 40 minutes tied up 1-1.
Maria Dominico opened up the scoring before the Blues replied to even things up.
In the third, the Lakers scored twice, including just 29 seconds into the period.
Strassburger buried the early marker and Gauthier added a goal just before the midway point of the final period, giving Nipissing a two-goal cushion.
Dominico potted her second of the night into an empty-net to secure the win and give the Lakers the full three points.
Jackie Rochefort finished with 18 saves, grabbing the win in net.
Zosia Davis had three assists,
Robyn Degagne had two, while
Jetta Derenoski,
Madison Solie and
Katelyn Heppner all earned helpers as well.
The Lakers are back in action Saturday afternoon, as they entertain the Ryerson Rams.
Puck drop is set for 4:30 at Memorial Gardens.
