What a start.
The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team completed a great weekend, earning four of a possible six points, as they capped things off with a 2-0 victory over the Carleton Ravens Sunday afternoon.
A goal in each half, some great goaltending and pressure all over the pitch gave Nipissing the full three points, to go along with one point on a draw Saturday versus Ottawa.
Madison Logan found the back of the net in the first half, scoring her first of the season, which turned out to be the game-winner.
After taking the 1-0 lead into halftime, Nipissing doubled their lead in the second as
Andrea Young buried her second of the season.
Sarah Matesic supplied the lone assist on Nipissing's second goal with a strong cross on a corner kick.
The top two scorers on the team last year are off to a strong start, combining for all three of Nipissing's goals so far this season.
Despite trailing for much of the game, Carleton was unable to put much pressure on the Lakers goal and keeper
Mykaela Volpe, who recorded the shutout thanks to another strong game.
She finished with six saves and just one in the second half, as the Lakers locked the game down.
Nipissing finished with 11 shots on goal.
Nipissing is now 1-0-1 on the season and currently in top spot in the division.
While it's early, gaining points in as many games as possible is crucial and the Lakers earned points in both contests as they broke in the brand new turf.
Up next for the Lakers is their first road trip of the season, as they head to Kingston to face the Queens Gaels and RMC Paladins next weekend.
