It was another tough matchup for the Nipissing Lakers women's volleyball team, as they faced one of the top teams in the OUA Sunday afternoon.

Welcoming the Waterloo Warriors, who sit just two points out of first in the West Division, the Lakers fought for three sets, but the Warriors proved to be too much, sweeping the Lakers 3-0.

In the opening set – the best of the three for the Lakers – it was an even start, as both teams looked to take control of the match and set the tone for the day.

Nipissing found themselves down just two at the technical timeout, trailing 16-14, but Waterloo poured it on late.

The Warriors scored nine of the next 13 points to walk away with a 25-18 win to go up 1-0.

In what turned out to be the middle set, Waterloo had control early, leading 9-5.

They extended their lead to 16-6 at the technical timeout.

Down 21-9, the Lakers pushed back late in the set, but Waterloo's lead was too much for Nipissing to overcome as they fell 25-13.

In the third set, Nipissing looked to extend the match, but the Warriors showed their depth and finished things off.

An early 9-4 lead expanded to a 16-7 advantage at the technical timeout.

The Lakers once again pushed late in the set, but down 22-11, the late 7-3 run wasn't enough, as the three points gave the Warriors the final set.

Shayla Kessler led the Lakers with 7.5 points, Averi Bodnar had 6 and Megan Winter added 5.5 in the contest.

Nipissing faces RMC and Queens next weekend in Kingston.
