Box Score Looking to bounce back after a Friday night loss – just as they did last weekend on the road – the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was back in action Saturday afternoon.
Hosting the Queens Gaels for the second straight game after a 5-2 loss in game one of the weekend, the Lakers fell short again, falling 4-2 Saturday afternoon.
A much better first period saw the Lakers jump out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
Harrison Caines found the back of the net near the midway point of the first, with assists going to
Cole Stewart and
Olivier Ouellet.
The Gaels answered back late on the power play to send the teams to the first intermission all even at 1-1.
In the second, the Gaels did all the scoring, potting two before the midway point of the period to graba 3-1 lead.
They would head into the second intermission up a pair, forcing the Lakers to put together a big third period if they aimed to grab a weekend split.
In the final frame, the Gaels continued their hot hand, adding another power play marker to go ahead by three goals.
That goal came just over two minutes into the final period.
Nipissing would answer that goal with one of their own coming off the stick of
Parker Bowman.
The tally was Bowman's second of the season and assisted by
Max Griffioen.
Lakers goalie
Francis Asselin finished with 29 saves in a losing cause, while the Lakers fired 27 shots at the Gaels net.
The Lakers are back in action next weekend hosting the RMC Paladins for a pair of games Friday and Saturday at Memorial Gardens.
