The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team had an up and down weekend on their first road trip of the season.
The Lakers earned a hard-fought 7-6 overtime win Friday night over the McMaster Marauders before falling 12-3 Saturday against the Laurier Golden Hawks to close out the weekend.
Friday,
Jesse Ashkewe led the way with five goals, including the overtime winner, while
Jacob Barney and
Kaleb Fulkerson each added singles in the victory.
Fulkerson added an assist, as well, while
Carter Tait had a pair of helpers.
Nipissing trailed 4-2 after three quarters and used a four-goal fourth to tie the game and send the game to an extra frame, before grabbing the win.
Saturday, a slow start hurt the Lakers as they trailed 2-0 early and 6-1 at halftime.
While they cut into the deficit in the third, Laurier pulled away in the fourth, scoring five times to put the game away.
Myles Shorey,
Jack Quinn and Tait scored for the Lakers.
Next, Nipissing heads to Toronto to take on the Varsity Blues Saturday evening.
