Coming off a lopsided win Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was looking to make it three straight wins to open the season.
After blanking the York Lions and blasting the TMU Bold, the Lakers welcomed the Windsor Lancers to town for an afternoon matchup Saturday at Memorial Gardens.
While they fired 39 shots at the Windsor goalie, it was the Lancers who came away with the win, topping the Lakres 4-1 as both teams wrapped up their weekend.
In the opening period, Windsor struck first, going up 1-0 with 14:37 left in the thanks to a shot off the rush.
The early Lancers goal was the only one of the period, as they took a one-goal lead into the intermission.
Shots favoured the Lancers 14-7 through 20 minutes.
The Lancers doubled their lead early in the second as they capitalized on a power play and made it 2-0 just over five minutes into the middle frame.
With less than a minute to go, the Lakers finally broke through as veteran forward

The goal, with 50 seconds left, made it 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Shots favoured Windsor 23-22 after two.
