MEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS GRAB A POINT ON THE ROAD

The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was able to salvage a point this weekend, as they hit the road to take on the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines.

The Lakers dropped both games, falling 4-2 Friday night, before earning a point in a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday afternoon.

Friday night, the Lakers trailed 2-0 early in the second before tying things up late in the period.

Charlie Johnson got the Lakers on the board midway through the middle frame, with assists going to Charles Farmer and Devyn Mayea.

Then, four minutes later, Elvis Slack, setup by Jeremy Duhamel and Dominic Leblanc, tied things up.

Unfortunately, two Brock goals in the third gave them the victory.

Reece Proulx finished with 31 saves in the contest.

On Saturday, Nipissing erased two one-goal deficits to grab a point, before falling in the extra frame.

Down 1-0 after one, the Lakers evened things up midway through the second as Frank Jenkins found the back of the net.

Elias Lieffers had the lone helper on the first Nipissing goal of the game.

Brock would regain the lead late in the second and the score would stay that way until the final minutes of the game.

Harrison Caines scored with 1:21 left in the game to tie things up and send the game to overtime.

Johnson and Payton Vescio had assists on the tying goal.

Just past the two-minute mark of the overtime period, the Badgers would score to earn the win and extra point.

Zach Roy made 35 saves for the Lakers in the loss.

Nipissing returns home for a pair of games this weekend as they host the Western Mustangs Friday and Saturday night.

Puck drop for both contests are 7pm at Memorial Gardens.
