Currently on a seven-game win streak with three games to go in the first half of the season, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was looking to stay hot Saturday night.
The Lakers welcomed the Laurier Golden Hawks to town for their lone game of the weekend and took care of business.
Thanks to a 4-0 win over the Hawks, the Lakers have now won eight in a row.
Nipissing found the back of the net in the opening period as captain
Allison Hayhurst buried her first of the season.
Melissa Svienson and
Tahlia Fisher grabbed assists on the game's opening goal.
Up a goal in the middle frame, the Lakers scored twice.
Maggie McKee finished off a nice play, tapping home her fifth of the campaign, with assists going to
Abby Lunney and Hayhurst.
Lunney then did the scoring herself, with McKee and
Tessa Kosec earning helpers on Nipissing's third of the game.
A pair of goals was all the offence in the second, as the Lakers took a 3-0 lead to the intermission.
In the third, with a healthy lead Nipissing locked things down and even added another goal.
Malory Dominico buried a power play marker with five minutes to go, assisted by McKee and Lunney, who each completed a three-point night.
The late power play marker made the final 4-0.
Chantelle Sandquist was perfect in net, finishing with 17 saves for the shutout win, while the Lakers had 32 shots of their own.
Nipissing is back in action next Saturday when they host the Queen's Gaels.
Puck drop is set for 4pm at Memorial Gardens.
