Like they did in the opening weekend, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball was looking to bounce back.
Nipissing dropped their road game Friday to Guelph and aimed to earn a weekend split when they hosted the Brock Badgers Sunday afternoon.
In a very entertaining and offensive game, the Badgers outlast the Lakers, coming away with a 83-76 win as both teams wrap up their weekend.
The teams came out flying in an entertaining and high-scoring affair to begin the game, as they combined for 46 points in the first quarter.
Brock held a slight 26-20 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
The Badgers then extended their lead in the second quarter, taking a 49-36 lead into the halftime break.
In the third, Nipissing came out strong and dominated, closing the gap to five points midway through the quarter.
They stayed hot, posting 27 points in the third and wrestled away the Brock lead.
Nipissing led 63-60 after 30 minutes of play.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, things flipped in the fourth, as Brock stormed back, outscoring Nipissing 23-13 to regain the lead and escape with the victory, edging the Lakers by seven points.
Taryn Gauthier led the way with 23 points,
Katelyn DeCook had 14,
Chantal Piche scored 13 and
Nicole Budd added 11 in the contest for the Lakers.
The Lakers host the Laurier Golden Hawks next Saturday, with tip-off set for 6pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
