The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team finished the weekend with a split and in the process, collected their first win of the season.
In their first game of the weekend, the Lakers took on one of the league's top teams and came up short, falling 14-9 to the Brock Badgers.
The following day, to close out the weekend, the Lakers built up an early lead and hung on to defeat the Toronto Varsity Blues 7-6 for win number one.
Saturday against Brock, the Badgers jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead after the first quarter and had early control of the game.
The Lakers bounced back in a big way, pulling the game even at the halftime break.
With the game tied 7-7 heading into the second half, Brock took over, outscoring Nipissing 7-2 in the final 30 minutes, grabbing the win.
Zach Tarr and
Jesse Ashkewe each had three goals, while Matthew Lalonde added two in the contest.
Sunday, the Lakers reversed the trend, as they got out to a strong start, leading 2-1 after one and 4-1 at halftime.
Toronto fought back, outscoring Nipissing 4-1 in the third quarter, as the teams headed to the final frame tied 5-5.
Nipissing managed to regain the lead late in the game and held on for the victory.
Tarr had another hat-trick, while
Myles Shorey added a pair of goals to lead the office.
Next up for Nipissing is their final home game of the regular season, as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday evening.
Game time is set for 6pm at the Nipissing Turf Field.
