As the regular season heads into the second half, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team continues to push for the top spot.
Thanks to a 5-1 start, the Lakers are third in the OUA East Division with a contest against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks set to close out the Nipissing Homecoming weekend.
A dominant 5-1 victory capped off a perfect weekend at home for the Lakers, as they defeated the Ridgebacks.
Nipissing was first on the board as veteran striker
Jessica Emmerton, who has been all over the ball this season, found the back of the net to put the Lakers up 1-0 about 20 minutes into the half.
Just past the 30 minute-mark,
Annika Nolte buried a chance in tight, doubling their lead to 2-0.
Nolte scored her second of the game not long after her first, putting the Lakers up 3-0 and in complete control at the halftime break.
Early in the second half, with a comfortable lead, the Lakers added on as Emmerton scored her second of the game just minutes in.
Emmerton completed the hat-trick, once again showing her skill to make it 5-0 Lakers shortly after she made it 4-0.
Ontario Tech did get on the board late in the second half, breaking up the shutout and clean sheet.
The Lakers hit the road for their next contest, travelling to Ottawa to take on the Gee Gees Friday night.
