The Nipissing Lakers had a tough weekend to begin the second half of the year, facing a pair of tough opponents.

Friday night, the Lakers entertained the Queen's Gaels at Memorial Gardens, with Saturday's matchup against Ontario Tech set for the afternoon.

After a tight first, the Gaels pulled away and skated to a 7-2 victory over the Lakers.

After a solid opening period, that saw a total of four goals, the Lakers and Gaels found themselves tied 2-2.

Noah Vom Sheidt and Harrison Caines each had a goal and an assist in the period.

Unfortunately, it was all Gaels after the first.

They would find the back of the net often in final 40 minutes, going up 4-2 after two periods of play and adding another three goals in the third to grab the win.

Nipissing hits the ice at 4pm to battle Ontario Tech to wrap up the weekend on home ice.
