The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team made it two wins in their past three games after a weekend split on the road.
Coming off a win to end 2024, the Lakers picked up a 85-58 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Friday night in Oshawa, before falling 80-57 to the Queen's Gaels Saturday in Kingston.
Friday night, the Lakers outscored the Ridgebacks in every quarter, including a hot start that saw them lead 42-29 at halftime.
A huge third quarter put the game out of reach as the Lakers cruised to the victory – their second straight.
Megan McCarter led the Lakers with 19 points,
Nicole Budd had 14,
Ella Bannister added 11 and
Dominique Bouchard and
Taryn Gauthier each had 10 in the victory.
On Saturday, Nipissing started strong, holding a lead after one, but Gaels stormed back in the final three quarters to come away with the win.
The second quarter changed the game, as the Gaels turned a six point deficit into an 11-point lead at the midway point.
McCarter had a big game for the Lakers, posting 24 points, while
Sophie Milner added 11 in the contest.
Nipissing is back on home court next weekend when they host the Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens.
