North Bay, ON – Nipissing University's Men's Lacrosse team beat U of T 19-8 on Thursday, October 30th at Nipissing Field to advance to the 2025 Baggataway Cup.
Toronto opened the scoring at 14:19 in the first quarter but Nipissing countered with five straight goals from 13:44 to 4:33. Nipissing added two more tallies to take a 7-3 lead after 15 minutes of play.
The second quarter followed suit with Toronto scoring early in the quarter, followed by six unanswered Nipissing goals. Jason Knox capped the quarter with a shorthanded tally at 2:51 to send the Lakers to halftime up 14-5.
The third quarter produced only two goals in total, one aside. Nipissing finished strong in the fourth with three straight goals to open the final quarter and added one final tally with less than a minute remaining for a final score of 19-8.
Scoring leaders for the Lakers included Zach Tarr scoring five goals and two assists; Jason Knox potted five goals and six assists; Ben King recorded four goals; Carter Tait added two goals, as well. Additional scoring came from Kaleb Fulkerson, Caleb Bosomworth, and Callum Jeffery, each finding the back of the net once. Jacob Tarr and Fulkerson also added assists to round out a balanced offensive effort.
Scott Del Zotto and Jason Ranger lead the Varsity Blues in scoring, each recording two goals.
Nipissing goaltender Connor O'Toole was solid in net for the Lakers, stopping 28 of 36 shots in the win.
With the win, Nipissing improves to 8-3 on the season and earns a spot in the 2025 Baggataway Cup, CUFLA's national championship tournament, set for November 7–9 at Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton, Ontario. The Lakers will join CUFLA's top teams in pursuit of the prestigious title. Their opponents will be determined by the remainder of the CUFLA Super Qualifier games this weekend.
This marks the fourth Baggataway Cup appearance in program history, with previous trips in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
The Lakers will enter the tournament with momentum and confidence, aiming to make history and bring the Baggataway Cup home to North Bay.
