Waterloo, ON – The Nipissing Men's Basketball team came home with a win and a loss from their road trip to Waterloo this past weekend, facing the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
On Friday, November 7th, the Lakers took down the Waterloo Warriors 70-54 for their first win of the season.
Lakers guard Jeziyah Excell-Johnson had a team-high 20 points in the win, shooting 4/9 from the 3-point line and 2/3 in free throws. Excell-Johnson also grabbed 10 defensive rebounds in the victory. Alex Blackmore scored 17 points on ¾ 3-point shooting, contributed 6 defensive rebounds and 1 steal. Chris-Evrard Malonga dropped 13 points and had 6 total rebounds.
The Lakers limited the Warriors to just 54 points in the win cementing a good defensive performance for the team.
Nipissing shot 40.9% from 3 point range in the game, and 43.8% overall in field goals.
Then, Saturday, November 8th, the Lakers were back in action against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Ultimately, the Lakers fell short, losing 93-57.
Jeziyah Excell-Johnson was again the leading scorer for Nipissing, dropping 21 points in the loss. Jeziyah also had 4 total rebounds, 2 assists, and was 3/3 from the free throw line in the game.
Chris-Evrard Malonga scored 11 points for the Lakers and added 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Douglas Junior Owusu Ansah lead the Lakers in rebounds, with 3 offensive and 3 defensive.
Alex Blackmore contributed 2 steals for Nipissing.
The Lakers are back in action this Friday, November 14th at 8pm for a matchup with Ontario Tech at Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre at 8PM. Then, Saturday, November 15th, the Queen's Gaels will be the opponent at 6PM, again at home for Nipissing.
