WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Lakers split weekend series at Queen's

Kingston, ON – Nipissing Women's Volleyball took a trip to Kingston, ON this past weekend for two matchups with the Queen's Gaels.

Friday, November 14's match unfortunately left the Lakers losing 3-0 to Queen's. The Gaels took the first 25-17, the second 25-15, and the third 25-22.

The Lakers showed lots of grit and fight in what ended up being the final set. The largest lead for either side being just 3. Nipissing traded points with Queen's for the entire set. Nipissing took a 14-13 lead with 3 straight points in the middle of the set, but Queen's found their footing. Before long the score found itself at 20-20, then 22-22. Queen's took the last 3 points of the set, winning 25-22 and the match 3-0.

Nipissing battled hard but came up just short in Friday's match and looked to get back into the win column Saturday, November 15.

Nipissing battled hard again in the first set, leading 11-10 before four straight points turned the set in the Lakers favour. Kills by Anna Marie Horvat and Oceane Raymond-Leduc proved to be difference makers for the Lakers. Queen's would push back, cutting Nipissing's lead to 21-20. From there, Nipissing would win 4 of the next 5 points, capped by a bad set from Queen's to win 25-21.

The second set featured much of the same back and forth, with neither team making a run until the middle of the set. Nipissing, down 14-12, won 6 of the next 8 points to take a 17-16 lead. Queen's would tie the set 18-18, but that would be the last tie in the match as Nipissing made it their mission to finish the set correctly. The Lakers closed the second winning 7 of the next 9 points take a 2-0 lead.

The Lakers were determined to not let Queen's back into this match, and did so, winning the 3rd set 25-22. Nipissing, down 11-7, won 4 straight points to tie the set at 11, in what proved to be a pivotal moment for the match. Ramanda Bell provided 2 kills and Oceane Raymond-Leduc served an ace inside the 4-point run. The set continued back and forth until Raymond-Leduc provided a kill, Ramanda Bell provided a service ace, and Queen's missed an attack in the final 3 points to give the Lakers the win.

For the Lakers, the loss and win move their record to 2-4 on the season. Women's volleyball is back in action this weekend at the University of Toronto. Friday, November 21's match goes at 7PM, and Saturday, November 22's match goes at 3:30PM. Catch all the action live on OUA.tv.
