Box Score North Bay, ON - Nipissing Lakers Men's Hockey defeated the Royal Military College Paladins by a score of 5-1 on Saturday, November 22nd at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens.
The first period featured chances at both ends. Nipissing's attack directed 15 shots on RMC's net in the frame. The ice-breaking goal was scored by Nipissing's Luke Strickland at 19:06 in the first, his 5th goal of the season. RMC had 6 shots on net in the period, but Lakers netminder Zach Roy stopped all advances.
Nipissing began the second period with a bang at 0:34 as Charlie Johnson potted his 4th tally of the year, doubling the Lakers advantage to 2-0. Then, at 4:43, RMC responded and got on the board as William Gallant scored his 7th of the season for the Paladins. The Lakers still led 2-1.
Nipissing would hold a 2-1 advantage for most of the remainder of the period, firing another 15 shots on RMC goaltender Michael Davis. However, at 15:25 Kyle Foreman would give the Lakers a 3-1 lead, scoring his 2nd goal of the year. Reilly Mayne would secure a 4-1 Lakers lead heading to the locker-room after 40 minutes. Mayne rifled home his 3rd of the season with just 29 seconds left in the period.
The game saw its first penalty at 6:50 in the third period, as Nipissing's Ken Belander was called for tripping. RMC would be unsuccessful on the power play.
Noah Vom Scheidt sealed the deal for the Lakers at 16:19, scoring his 9th of the season batting down a point-shot and shooting it home from the slot.
Mason Chitaroni was called for high sticking at 17:30 of the period. RMC again was unsuccessful on the power play as Nipissing's penalty kill looked sharp.
The Lakers took this contest 5-1. Nipissing out shot RMC 37-18 in the game. Lakers goalie Zach Roy was great all game, stopping 17 of 18 shots faced.
The win moves the Lakers to 8-5-1 this season, and 4-2 at home.
Men's Hockey is back in action Saturday, November 29th when the Queen's Gaels travel to North Bay for a matchup. Puck-drop is 4PM.
