Brampton, ON — The Nipissing Lakers staged a dramatic fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Queen's Gaels 13–8 in the Baggataway Cup Quarterfinals, earning a spot in tomorrow's Semi-Final against the McGill Redbirds at 5:30 PM.
Queen's controlled the game early, and Nipissing did not hold a lead until the final frame when
Jack Quinn's lone goal of the game put the Lakers ahead 9-8. Entering the fourth quarter tied 7–7, the Gaels struck first, but the Lakers erupted for six unanswered goals to seal the victory. The turning point came when Nipissing capitalized on a key Queen's penalty, swinging momentum and igniting an offensive surge.
Zach Tarr was unstoppable, scoring 3 goals and adding 4 assists for a game-high 7 points, earning Player of the Game honours.
Jason Knox delivered a clutch performance with 3 goals and 2 assists (5 points).
Ben King added 3 goals and an assist while
Nick Hulbert chipped in 2 goals and 1 assist. The Lakers' depth shone through with goals from Quinn and
Carter Tait, plus an assist from
Kaleb Fulkerson.
The energy at Terry Fox Stadium was electric, with Lakers fans travelling from across the country to cheer on the Lakers. Their support fueled the team's comeback and made the night unforgettable.
With this win, Nipissing advances to the Semi-Finals against McGill tomorrow at 5:30 PM, as they continue their quest for the Baggataway Cup.
