WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS FALL JUST SHORT IN SEASON FINALE

Wrapping up the season on home court, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was looking to close things out on a positive note.

The Lakers hosted the Lakehead Thunderwolves Friday night and after a well-played and exciting contest, it was the Thunderwolves who escaped with the win, coming out on top, 77-68.

In a fast-paced opening quarter, the Lakers and T'Wolves traded baskets, with Nipissing down 17-11 late.

After each team nailed a three-pointer, the first quarter ended with Lakeahd ahead of the Lakers, 20-14.

A strong second quarter saw the Lakers pull ahead 28-24 thanks to a 14-4 run in the first five minutes.

From there, they managed to stay out in front and took a two-point lead to the halftime break.

After 20 exciting minutes, the Lakers led Lakehead 37-35.

In the third, Lakehead took a 45-42 advantage, swinging the momentum thanks to strong play at both ends of the court.

After the third quarter, the Lakers were down seven, 53-46.

Nipissing stormed back in the fourth and brough the game within one, down 57-56 with lots of time to fight back.

Unfortunately, Lakehead pulled away late in the game, after leading by just one – they extended their lead and won by nine.

Sophie Milner led the Lakers with 21 points, Taryn Gauthier had 12 and Megan McCarter added 11 in the contest.

Nipissing ends the season with a 6-16 record.
