The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was back in action Saturday night to close out the weekend.
After a losing to Queen's Friday night, the Lakers hosted the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in their third last game of the regular season.
A complete effort from start to finish saw the Lakers pick up a 67-63 victory over the Ridgebacks.
A slow start saw the Lakers down 9-6, but they went on a 9-3 to close out the quarter and they gained control.
After one, Nipissing led Ontario Tech 15-12.
The Lakers stayed out in front of Ontario Tech late in the half, holding on to a slight two-point lead, up 25-23 with less than five minutes to go.
At the halftime break, the Lakers and Ridgebacks are tied 29-29.
In the third quarter, Nipissing extended their lead and made it a five-point advantage, up 46-41 with four minutes remaining in the period.
After three solid quarters from both teams, the Lakers continue to lead, up by eight, 51-43.
The Lakers locked things down in the fourth quarter, holding on to their lead and coming away with a hard-fought, deserved win.
Megan McCarter led the Lakers with 19 points,
Nicole Budd had 18 and
Taryn Gauthier and
Sophie Milner each had 10 in the victory.
Nipissing hits the road for a mid-week game, travelling to Sudbury to take on Laurentian Wednesday night.
Tip-off is set for 6pm.
