Sudbury, ON – Nipissing Men's Basketball lost a close contest 83-74 to the Laurentian Voyageurs on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Laurentian outscored Nipissing 21-18 in the first quarter. Nipissing roared back into the game, outscoring Laurentian 27-14 in the second quarter to take a 45-35 lead at half.
The third quarter was a close contest, as the Voyageurs took it 22-20 to cut Nipissing's lead to eight, 65-57. Laurentian took control of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Lakers 26-9 and taking the game 83-74.
Chris-Evrard Malonga led Nipissing with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Jeziyah Excell-Johnson scored 14 and added 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Alvin Icyogere scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Alex Blackmore, Mateja Vukic, and Doug Awusu each scored eight points in the game.
The loss moves Men's Basketball to a 6-11 record this season.
The Lakers look to get back in the win column this Friday, Jan. 30 at home when the Guelph Gryphons pay a visit to RJS Athletic Centre. Tip-off is 8PM.
Friday's game is Nipissing's annual Shoot for Change game, hosted by NUBASE (Nipissing University Black Association for Student Expression). Proceeds from this game will support the Warren Lindsay bursary, helping BIPOC students overcome barriers to education.
