North Bay, Ontario – Nipissing Women's Soccer came up just short in their 2026 season-opening game at home against the uOttawa Gee-Gees, losing 2-1.
The Lakers got on the board first in the match as Hannah Neville potted her first of the season at the 39:31 mark. Annika Nolte picked up the lone assist on the goal.
The Lakers aimed to lead after 45 minutes but the Gee-Gees managed to equalize the score in stoppage time to see the score be 1-1 at the half.
In the second, uOttawa broke the deadlock, scoring to make it 2-1 at the 49:52 mark.
The Lakers pressed and had chances to tie the match but ultimately it was uOttawa that held on for a 2-1 win at full time.
Shots in the match were 5 for the Lakers, with 3 on net; uOttawa managed 23, with 13 on net.
Nipissing goalkeeper Hayden Hanley managed 11 saves in the loss.
