MEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS FALL TO WATERLOO AND SPLIT THE WEEKEND

Brian Doherty Photo
After a key win Friday, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team couldn't make it two in a row, as they dropped a tight 3-1 contest.

The Waterloo Warriors used two goals in the first period and a late one to pick up the two points and force the Lakers to settle for a weekend split.

In a wide open affair, Nipissing allowed the opening goal just before the midway point of the first, but only trail for about four minutes, as they responded pretty quickly.

Danny Desrochers picked up his third of the year, tying the game at one, with Nathan Glass and Dylan Staples picking up helpers.

The lead didn't last long, however, as Waterloo took the lead back with just over three minutes remaining in the first period.

A scoreless second saw the teams within one goal entering the final period, but Nipissing was unable to muster much offence and a goal with 29 seconds left put the game away for Waterloo and gave them the victory.

Domenic Graham finished with 37 saves for Nipissing, while they fired 28 at the Warriors net.

The Lakers are back in action with two games next weekend.

They hit the road to face RMC Friday in Kingston, before returning home to battle the UOIT Ridgebacks Sunday night at Memorial Gardens.

Puck drop is schedule for 7:15pm.
