The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team showed their resilience Saturday night, rebounding from a tough loss Friday night.
After falling 4-2 Friday night, the Lakers bounced back nicely to upend the Carleton Ravens 4-3 in a shootout after tying the game in the dying seconds of the third.
Brett Hargrave and
Dylan Staples led the attack as Nipissing found their way back into the win column.
The Lakers erased three one-goal deficits on their way to the win, as they trailed 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes, before tying the game in the second period.
Hargrave scored his first of two on the season shorthanded, set up by
Guillaume Naud.
Carleton regained the lead early in the third period, but Staples answered to tie things up at two.
Colin Campbell and
Brody Morris earned assists, but less than five minutes later, Carleton scored again to go up by one.
That set up Hargrave's heroics, as he tied the game with 38 seconds remaining on the clock.
Danny Desrochers and Staples drew helpers and after overtime solved nothing, it was Staples' turn to step up.
Brent Moran stopped all three Ravens shooters and Staples made no mistake on his attempt, giving the Lakers the win and extra point.
Staples finished with two points and the shootout winner, while Hargrave had two goals, giving him 10 on the season.
Moran finished with 23 saves for the win.
Nipissing hits the road next weekend, facing Queens and UOIT on Friday and Saturday night.
