After a bit of a stumble last weekend at home, the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team is back in the win column.
The Lakers played a complete game and controlled the entire 90 minutes of their way to a 5-1 victory over the visiting RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon.
Led by a pair of goals by
Nathan Zak, Nipissing improved to 6-6-1 on the season and are now tied for fourth place in the East Division.
Nipissing is now 3-1-1 in their past five games, bouncing back from a stretch where they lost three in a row.
The Lakers got off to a quick start, scoring just three minutes into the game.
Jack Collins made no mistake, as he put the home team up 1-0.
Five minutes later,
Ryan Roy found the back of the net and doubled Nipissing's lead with Collins picking up an assist – adding his second of three points in the game.
A highlight reel goal made it 3-0 Lakers, as
Cody Vaillancourt headed home a Collins cross at the 26-minute mark and that three goal lead stood up until early in the second half.
Zak scored the first of his two in the half just minutes into the second period of play, set up by Roy, who was one of three Lakers to record a multi-point game.
With the score 4-0 Lakers, RMC tallied one at the 77 th minute to break the shutout, but a second Zak tally six minutes later put Nipissing up 5-1, a lead they would hold to close out the game.
Collins finished with three points, while Zak and Roy each had two in the win.
Achuthan Shanmugaratnam finished with three saves, earning the victory.
Next up,Nipissing will host the Queens Gaels, the team they're battling with for fourth place.
Kickoff is set for 2:15pm.
Prior to the game, the Lakers will honour four senior athletes – Zak,
Jamal Brown, Will Tsilkas and Alex Zero.
