WOMEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS SHUTOUT BY BLUES

It wasn't the return to home ice the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was hoping for.

After posting two big wins on the road, including a win over the defending champion Queen's Gaels, the Lakers dropped both games this weekend, losing 5-2 to the Ryerson Rams and 3-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

After Friday's loss, the Lakers looked to bounce back on Saturday, but were unable to create much in the way of offence and the Blues used a goal in each period to walk away with the win and two points.

A slow start hurt Nipissing, as Toronto scored the game's first goal and controlled the early part of the game.

Leading 1-0 after one period, the Blues added to their lead in the second with the lone goal of the middle frame.

Despite a few chances and some time on the power play, Nipissing failed to convert and Toronto took a2-0 advantage into the second intermission.

Once again, Toronto added to their lead, making it 3-0 in the third period and keeping the Lakers chances to a minimum.

Cassie Roberge was busy in net and made some big saves, but was tagged with the loss.

She finished with 21 stops in her first start.

Nipissing only managed 13 shots on goal against a stingy Blues defence.

Nipissing will hit the road, where they're undefeated, next weekend and face Waterloo Saturday and Laurier Sunday.
