If you like scoring, Memorial Gardens was the place to be Friday night as the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team hosted the York Lions.
The teams combined for 11 goals as the Lions outlast Nipissing to come away with a 6-5 overtime victory to snap the Lakers' four game winning streak.
The Lakers fought back from two-goal deficits twice to tie the game, but eventually came up short in the extra period, taking home a single point in the process.
After
Kaley Tienhaara scored to kick things off in the first, set up by
Jetta Derenoski and
Zosia Davis, York scored the next three goals.
The Lions tied the game before the end of the period, then potted two in the second to go ahead 3-1.
Nipissing replied with goals under four minutes apart from
Natalie Graham and
Kaitlyn McManus to tie things up.
McManus assisted on Graham's goal and Graham had a helper on McManus' tally.
Brianna Gaffney also picked up an assist on the tying goal.
Before the second was done, York would regain their two goal advantage, scoring 10 seconds apart to take a 5-3 lead into the third.
Just before the midway point, Davis would get the Lakers back in the game, scoring to make it 5-4.
Tienhaara drew the lone assist on the Davis goal.
Less than two minutes later, Gaffney found the back of the net to make it 5-5.
Graham and
Maria Dominico picked up assists on Nipissing's fifth goal.
That goal sent the teams to the extra period, where just 1:16 in, the Lions escaped with the extra point.
Graham led the way with three points, Tienhaara, Davis, Gaffney and McManus all had two point nights.
Mercedes Chircop is tagged with the loss, playing the final 20:35 of the game, making four saves on five shots.
