The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team seems to be close to breaking through and putting together a winning streak, but they're not there yet.
The Lakers played another solid game Friday night when they hosted the skilled Concordia Stingers to town.
Despite digging themselves out of a 2-0 deficit, the Lakers eventually dropped the decision by a final of 5-3.
As has been the case, it was a bit of a slow start for Nipissing, as Concordia scored the lone goal of the first period and added their second less than a minute into the middle frame.
Down by a pair, Nipissing replied.
Lucas Brown cut into the deficit with a power play goal, set up by
Kylor Wall and
Erik Campbell.
Then, about three minutes later,
Dylan Staples tied the game, with
Colin Campbell and
Dan Desrochers earning helpers.
Unfortunately, the Stingers would regain their two goal cushion before the end of the second, scoring twice to take a 4-2 lead into the third.
Colby Tower made things interesting when he found the back of the net with just 1:09 left on the clock.
Colin Campbell earned his second assist of the game, while
Matt Donnelly picked up the other.
The late pressure wasn't enough, however, as the Stingers would find the empty-net and seal the victory,
Brent Moran finished with 26 saves, while Nipissing fired 30 shots at the Concordia goal.
The Lakers are back on home ice Saturday when they host the McGill Redmen.
Game time is 7:30pm at Memorial Gardens.
