Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Robb Fenton - Nipissing Athletics

MEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS FALL 2-0 TO RAVENS DESPITE STRONG EFFORT

The Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team was just that close Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers, who fell 2-0 to the Carleton Ravens to begin their 2018 OUA season, had a late penalty kick that, if successful, would have tied the game.

Instead, the Ravens goalkeeper made the save and Carleton marched down the field to put the game out of reach with their second tally of the game.

After an even first half, the teams hit the break tied 0-0.

Both teams had chances down the stretch, but it was Carleton that struck first, scoring in a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

That lead would stand up until the 90th minute when the Lakers had a chance to tie it, but came up short and the Ravens would pad their lead, sealing the victory and spoiling Nipissing's home opener.

A game where they deserved a better fate will still serve the Lakers well in the long run, proving they can play with anybody – including last year's USports bronze medal winning, Ravens.

Lakers keeper Andrew Johnstone was outstanding in his debut, finishing with 10 saves, including a few impressive stops.

Nipissing will not head to Kingston to battle the Queens Gaels and RMC Paladins next weekend, looking for their first win of the young season.
