WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS PICK UP A BIG WIN OVER TORONTO

After grabbing a single point Saturday, the Nipissing Lakers came up with a very important win Sunday, defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-1.

The Lakers scored twice early in the second half to push them to the victory, completing a four point weekend and improving to 5-3-2 on the season.

The first half saw the play stay in the middle of the field for the most part before the Lakers broke through.

Madison Logan picked up a loose ball and fired it home to continue her great season.

The goal was her sixth of the season and second of the weekend.

Nipissing's lead last just a few minutes as Toronto tied the game quickly and the teams went to halftime even at 1-1.

The Lakers took over five minutes into the second half as Andrea Young scored the eventual game-winner as she returned to the lineup.

Four minutes later, Kristen Farkas found the back of the net to put the game away and secure the win and full three points for Nipissing who currently sits in second place in the East Division.

Mykaela Volpe picked up a win in net, making six saves on seven shots, with the final shots 14-7 favouring the Lakers.

Next up, Nipissing hits the road and travel to Peterborough and Oshawa to face the Trent Excalibur and UOIT Ridegbacks.
