A tough road trip and a pair of tough losses capped off the first half of the season for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team this past weekend.
The Lakers fell twice to the UQTR Patriotes, losing 2-1 Friday night and 6-0 Saturday in the final games of the semester.
Friday, in a tight contest, the Patriotes edged Nipissing thanks to goals in the first and third period.
The Lakers replied with one in the second, but it wasn't enough.
UQTR led 1-0 after one period and into the second until the 11:54 mark when
Kylor Wall buried a goal on the power play to draw the Lakers even.
Colby Tower and
Danny Desrochers picked up assists on the goal.
Unfortunately for Nipissing, the lone goal of the third period came from UQTR, as they picked up the win.
Francis Asselin was outstanding in net, finishing with 37 saves, while Nipissing managed 32 shots on goal at the other end.
Saturday, the Patriotes controlled from start to finish.
They scored five times in the first period – all within the first 13 minutes in fact – as they cruised to the shutout victory.
UQTR added a goal in the third as well.
Nipissing will be back in action in January when they host the RMC Paladins to begin the second semester.
