WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS BLANK TRENT TO IMPROVE TO 4-1-0 ON THE YEAR

A near perfect first half led the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team to their fourth win of the season Saturday afternoon against the Trent Excalibur.

After suffering their first loss of the season last weekend on the road, the Lakers bounced back with a three-goal first half, led by two goals from Madison Logan, on their way to a 4-0 victory.

Nipissing has now moved to 4-1-0 on the season.

The game started with a bang for the Lakers as Logan scored her first of two first half tallies just two minutes into the game.

She added another goal at the 34-minute to pad the Nipissing lead before one more goal in the first half.

Zoe Derkach added the third for the Lakers, scoring just before the whistle to end the first frame.

In the second half, Ashley Mlinaric added the only goal to extend Nipissing's advantage as they cruised to the win.

Mykaela Volpe was perfect in net before being replaced by Joy Simpson, who finished up the game, preserving the shutout.

Final shots favoured Nipissing 11-7.

Nipissing is back in the win column and looking ahead to a road game Sunday at Laurentian.

The Lakers defeated Laurentian 1-0 to open the season in late August.

Game time is set for noon in Sudbury.
