Opening of Facilities:  Facilities will open in accordance to the University's Return to Campus Framework - August 16

Book a Workout:  Our students and staff will be able to call the Athletic Centre 705.474.3450. Ext 4397 to book a timeslot. We encourage all patrons to call in advance. Once the AC capacity has been reached, bookings will close for that time slot. Walk-ins will only be permitted if capacity allows and as long as it is able to be well managed.  Each time slot (one per day per person) will consist of 90 minutes of time inside the facility. Patrons are to show up NO earlier than 10 minutes before their time slot. The last 15 minutes of each time slot will be reserved for the patron to collect their belongings from buckets provided in weight rooms and lockers in cardio room and exit the facility. All patrons will have access to various workout areas and must adhere to room capacity that will be clearly posted at each entrance of the cardio room, weight room, and fitness studios. Capacity per time slot will be determined by the region's colour coded system at that time.

Example: A bookable time slot is 8:30am -10:00am. The patron will be required to clean up their space and collect their belongings at 9:45am. Between 10:00am-10:30am athletics staff will reset and clean the space. The next bookable time slot will be 10:30am-12:00pm

Reduced Capacity: We will reduce our capacity in all areas of the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre (AC) to allow for proper physical distancing according to the region's colour coded system at that time. Equipment will be reduced, removed, or relocated where necessary. Capacity for all rooms will be indicated outside of the rooms.

Dedicated AC Reset Time: A reset time will include the 30 minutes between each scheduled time slot. This time will ensure that all patrons are able to exit the AC and that staff will have sufficient time to reset and clean the workout space for the next patron.

Screening and Assessment: All individuals (workers, staff and students, spectators, contractors, etc.) entering the facility will be actively screened.

For staff and students: An online screening method before each pre-booked visit will be utilized. This screen may be completed through an app, SMS, or email through which they attest or confirm. Details of the software will be released as soon as possible.

Active screening will include asking about COVID-19 symptoms (see COVID-19 Reference Document for Symptoms (PDF)) as well as exposure risks (e.g., recent travel, contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19) and COVID-19 status (including awaiting test results).

All patrons will be screened through the Nipissing University Safe app.

Nipissing Safe is the official safety app of Nipissing University. It is the only app that integrates with Nipissing University's safety and security systems. Security Services has worked to develop a unique app that provides students, faculty and staff with added safety on the Nipissing University campus. The app will send you important safety alerts and provide instant access to campus safety resources.

Proof of completion (day of use) will be required upon arrival to the Athletics Centre.

All those who do not pass the screening will not be permitted to enter the facility.

Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 upon screening or who do not pass the screening, will be instructed to self-isolate immediately and encouraged to get tested at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. If an individual has questions related to COVID-19, they will be instructed to contact their primary care provider, Telehealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000) or visit Ontario's COVID-19 websitehttps://covid-19.ontario.ca/index.html

Attire: Students and staff are to arrive prepared and appropriately attired to begin their activity and limit exposure to others. Patrons should be encouraged to wait either in a vehicle or physically distanced outside before their scheduled activity. Wearing a face covering is highly recommended for those waiting in line to enter the facility.

Use of Face Coverings: Patrons are required to use a face covering inside common areas including the lobby, hallways, stairwells, washrooms and while entering and exiting the facility or at any time not engaging in intense physical activity, where not otherwise required by local public health officials or municipal by-laws. Face coverings will be required when visiting any offices in the Athletics Centre. Staff and visitors are required to maintain 2m distance and wear masks. Only one visitor at a time is allowed in an office.

All Athletics Centre staff and patrons are required to wear a mask in accordance with Nipissing University's Face Covering Policy. This policy can be found at https://www.nipissingu.ca/departments/human-resources/health-and-safety/policies-and-procedures/face-covering

Hand Sanitizer: All patrons are required to practice good hand and respiratory hygiene in the AC at all times. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the AC.

Frequent Cleaning: Our staff will engage in their constant cleaning mindset to ensure specialized attention is always given to high touch areas and surfaces around the AC. Our patrons are required to wipe down their equipment before and after each use. Additional disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray and paper towels have been made available.

Directional Arrows, Floor Markers and Signage: Nipissing University has installed directional arrows and signage throughout the AC to ensure all staff and students can maintain physical distancing. Floor makers indicate where students and staff should stand or wait to ensure distancing.

Protective Barriers: Protective barriers are installed at our front desk to ensure the AC staff do not come in contact with the staff and students when entering the AC.

Reduction of Services and Amenities: At this time, equipment rental is not available.

Fitness classes are offered virtually through: The Studio North Bay and Ground Studios: https://nulakers.ca/news/2020/9/14/Yoga_and_Zumba_Offered_to_NU_students.aspx

Change Rooms and Washrooms: Select and limited number of washrooms are available to patrons. Change rooms will be unavailable until further notice. This document will be updated as required.

Locks must be removed after each training session is complete. Buckets for personal belongings are available for use in Weight Rooms, and Fitness Rooms during booked sessions. Buckets must be emptied after each training session is complete. Any items left in lockers and/or buckets will be kept in lost and found at the front desk for 48hrs and then disposed of by Athletics Centre staff. Nipissing University is not responsible for lost and stolen items.

Water Stations: Water stations and water fountains will be unavailable until further notice. No-touch bottle refill stations are accessible. Students and staff are to bring their own water bottle and are encouraged to come with it filled.
