Box Score 2 Two quality performances results in a weekend split for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team, including their first victory of the season.
The Lakers hit the road and made their way to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels Friday night and the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon.
Despite being up 2-0 early Friday, the Lakers dropped a 4-2 decision to the Gaels before edging the Paladins 3-2 in a shootout Saturday.
Payton Vescio and Brady Lynn had the Nipissing goals in the first period Friday, but four straight tallies from the Gaels saw Queen's steal a win from Nipissing.
Zach Roy finished with 30 saves in the loss.
Once again, a shot start had the Lakers up 2-0 in the first period.
Charlie Johnson and Devyn Mayea found the back of the net for Nipissing before RMC answered with two of their own before the end of the opening 20.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the second, third or overtime, sending the game to a shootout.
Charles Farmer tallied the shootout win and Zach Roy finished with 42 saves in regulation and three more in the shootout.
Next up for the Lakers is a pair of home games - Saturday against Carleton and Sunday versus Ottawa.
