MEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS FALL TO REDBIRDS IN ROUND 2 OF OUA PLAYOFFS

Box Score An outstanding regular season and a strong effort in the OUA Playoffs came to an end for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers hosted the McGill Redbirds Saturday afternoon in Round 2 of the Queen's Cup OUA Playoffs, as the two teams picked up wins on Wednesday night.

The Lakers shutout Ottawa, while McGill upset the top-ranked Queen's Gaels.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Redbirds continued their unlikely run by winning their second straight up, defeating Nipissing by a final of 3-1.

While there were a lot of chances and a good pace, it was the Redbirds scored the lone goal of the opening period and took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

They also held the advantage in shots, outshooting Nipissing 20-12.

In the middle frame, the Redbirds extended their lead just over five minutes into the frame.

A turnover and an odd-man rush resulted in McGill going up 2-0.

With 7:34 left in the second, McGill added to their lead, making it 3-0 as the puck just snuck past Lakers goalie Michael Herringer.

After 40 minutes, the Lakers trailed by three and were being outshot 32-23, but had their chances and looked dangerous despite being unable to find the back of the net.

In the third, Jacob Collins got the Lakers on the board, scoring with 11:19 remaining in the period to cut into his team's deficit.

Cole Stewart and Harrison Caines picked up the helpers on Collins' goal.

Nipissing continued their late game push, but it wasn't enough as they fall short in Round 2

Herringer was solid in the Lakers net, turning aside 35 shots, while the Lakers fired 34 at the McGill net.

The Lakers great campaign comes to an end after a fourth place finish and advancing to Round 2.
