The Nipissing Lakers started off the season in style Saturday afternoon at home.
Nipissing defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 1-0 grabbing an important three points early in the season to get the ball rolling in the right direction as they look to get back to the post-season.
There wasn't much to report in terms of offence throughout the 90 minutes, but both teams did have chances.
The teams went into the halftime break tied 0-0.
Early in the second half, veteran defence
Austin Munro hammered a shot off the crossbar and into the net.
While there was some confusion whether it crossed the line at first, the Lakers did manage to bury the rebound, ensuring the goal counted.
After the referee consulted his assistant, it was determined the original shot went in, giving Nipissing the one goal advantage.
It was all the scoring they would need, as they tightened up defensively and secured the win and three points.
Ryan Miners was perfect in net, earning the shutout victory.
The teams are back in action Sunday in Sudbury, wrapping up the weekend.
Game time is set for 2:15pm.
