Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team dropped a pair of games this past weekend on their only road trip of January.
Playing six of eight at home, the Lakers fell to the Ottawa Gee Gees 6-1 Friday night, before dropping a 7-2 decision to the Queen's Gaels Saturday in Kingston.
On Friday, the Lakers found themselves down 3-0 early in the second before getting on the scoreboard.
Jordan Spadafore found the back of the net, with assists going to
Alexander De Gagne and
Elias Lieffers, as Nipissing closed within two.
Ottawa would seal the win, however, scoring the final three goals of the game – all in the third – to come away with the two points.
Zach Roy was in net, finishing with 37 saves.
Saturday, Nipissing jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and took that advantage into the first intermission.
Harrison Caines and
Cole Stewart both tallied in the second half of the opening period, with Stewart's coming in the final six seconds to put the Lakers up a pair.
Pascal Valcourt and
Devyn Mayea picked up helpers on Stewart's goal.
The Gaels stormed back, scoring seven straight, including three in the second and four in the third to wrestle away the victory from Nipissing.
Michael Herringer made 36 saves in the contest.
Next up, the Lakers host the McGill Redbirds for a pair of games this weekend.
Game time is set for 7:30pm Friday night and 2pm Saturday, both at Memorial Gardens.
