Box Score After suffering a tough shootout loss Thursday afternoon to begin their two-game weekend, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was looking to bounce back Friday night.

Wrapping up their set against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the team went to overtime again, with the Lakers once again coming up short, falling 4-3 in the overtime period.

In the opening period, it was Nipissing that got on the board first, scoring just 35 seconds in.

Charles Farmer continued his hot start to the season, burying his fifth of the year.

The teams traded goals in the middle frame, with the Thunderwolves tying the game early before the Lakers regained the lead.

Kyle Foreman found the back of the net on power play just past the midway point of the period, putting Nipissing up 2-1.

Payton Vescio and Devyn Mayea, who have both been on hot streaks, picked up helpers on the goal.

Much like the second, Lakehead scored to tie the game, just before the midway point, making it 2-2.

Less than three minutes later the Lakers, for the second time, regained the lead.

Elias Lieffers buried his second of the year, with Max Griffoen and Reilly Mayne setting up the power forward.

Lakehead refused to go quietly, tying the game yet again, making it 3-3 with under three minutes to go.

The late tally sends the game to overtime, as both teams earned a point and the game was decided – for the second straight night – in extra time.

Just over two minutes into the extra frame, the Thunderwolves found the back of the net, again escaping with the victory.

Zach Roy was between the pipes for the Lakers, making 33 saves, while Nipissing fired 30 shots at the Lakehead net.

The Lakers continue their homestand next weekend, hosting the Ottawa Gee Gees Friday and the Carleton Ravens Saturday.

Both games are set to begin at 7:30pm at Memorial Gardens.
