Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team hit a bit of a speed bump Friday night on the road, but bounced back nicely to earn a weekend split on the road.
The Lakers dropped a tough 8-1 decision to the Queen's Gaels in Kingston, but rebounded quickly to blast the RMC Paladins 9-4 less than 24 hours later.
With the split, the Lakers are now 5-3-1, with a pair of home games on the way this week.
In their loss,
Kyle Foreman scored the lone goal, tallying on the power play in the third period, with
Charles Farmer and
Payton Vescio grabbing assists.
Saturday, the teams combined for 13 goals with Nipissing pulling out the victory.
The Lakers went up 3-0 before RMC stormed back to tie the game.
From there, Nipissing scored the next four goals, going up 7-3 before RMC answered late in the third period.
The Lakers added two goals late to secure the win and finish with a split on the road trip.
Six players recorded multi-point efforts, with
Reilly Mayne leading the way, scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist.
Farmer had a hat-trick of his own, while
Devyn Mayea grabbed four assists.
Foreman and
Jonathan Rees each had a goal and two assists and
Elias Lieffers added a goal and an assist.
Next up for the Lakers is a four-game homestand which begins Thursday versus Lakehead
The teams will hit the ice Thursday afternoon at 1pm and Friday at 7pm, both at Memorial Gardens.
