The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team came up with a gutsy effort on the weekend to move into second place in the OUA East Division and earn a first-round bye.
The Lakers dropped a tough decision Saturday, falling 2-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues before bouncing back and earning a 2-0 win over the TMU Bold Sunday to wrap up the regular season and put them in a favourable position for the post-season.
A pair of second half goals sunk the Lakers as the Blues came away with the win and three points.
Sunday, Nipissing bounced back nicely, scoring in each half, including a late marker to seal the win.
Taylor Schell opened the scoring at the 25-minute mark, while
Cassidy Brooks clinched the win with a goal in the dying minutes of the game.
Nipissing will now get a bye in the first round of the OUA Playoffs and await the winner of the Carleton/Queen's matchup.
The Lakers first playoff game is set for Oct. 23 in North Bay.
