WOMEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS BLANK MUSTANGS FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Currently riding a four-game winning streak, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was looking to make it five when they hit the ice for their lone game of the weekend.

The Lakers hosted the Western Mustangs in a showcase game as part of the Junior Lakers hockey tournament in North Bay all weekend.

Nipissing controlled the game for 60 minutes on their way to a 4-0 victory, improving to 6-1 on the season.

After a few chances, but no real pressure, the Lakers capitalized on a late power play and made it 1-0.

Melissa Svienson banged home a loose puck during a goal-mouth scramble to put the Lakers up a goal.

Aki Fujimori and Lana Duriez earned assist on the game's opening goal, which came on the power play with 47 seconds left in the frame.

Already up a goal, the Lakers added a second as Abby Lunney tucked home a loose puck on the door step for the second power play goal of the game.

Maggie McKee and Malory Dominico grabbed assists on that goal.

Lunney's goal put the Lakers up two after 40 minutes and led in the shot department, 17-16.

The Lakers made it a goal in each period as they scored with just over five minutes to go in the game.

Elizabeth Laberge fired home a point shot, with Emily Lange drawing the assist.

Shortly after, Emma Thomas buried second of the season to make it 4-0.

Duriez and Madison Desmarais picked up assists on the fourth tally of the night for Nipissing.

Chantelle Sandquist closed the door for the Lakers, turning aside 29 shots, while Nipissing had 22 of their own in the win.

Next up, the Lakers hit the road and travel to Guelph and St. Catharines to take on the Gryphons and Badgers.
