WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS BLANK VEES IN DOMINANT FASHION

Coming off a pair of road wins, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team was back at home Friday night.

Hosting their northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs in the first game of the Riley Gallo Cup and 705 Challenge Cup, the Lakers were looking to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Thanks to a dominant effort, the Lakers stayed undefeated, blanking Laurentian 6-0.

The Lakers wasted little time getting on the board as veteran striker Cassidy Brooks did what she does best and made it 1-0 Nipissing.

Her goal came just over eight minutes into the contest.

Nipissing added to their lead shortly after, with Brooks scoring her second of the game and seventh of the season.

Bella Nolte earned the assist on the second goal of the game.

Just after the 30-minute mark, Annika Nolte grabbed the ball and hammered home the third Lakers goal, putting them up 3-0 late in the half.

Just before the final whistle of the opening 45 minutes, Alyssa Bui made no mistake to extend Nipissing's lead.

Up 4-0 entering the second half, the Lakers cruised in the second half, adding a pair of goals to seal the win.

Paris Grosselle made it 5-0 with a nice finish, before Brooks completed yet another hat-trick capping off the scoring in a lopsided win.

The victory gives the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the Riley Gallo Cup and 705 Challenge Cup.

Next for the Lakers is a first-place showdown with the Ottawa Gee Gees, who will make their way to North Bay for a Sunday afternoon game.

Kickoff is set for 1pm at the Nipissing Turf Field.
