The top of the OUA East Division is starting to separate from the rest of the league and the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team find themselves right in the mix.
Sitting with a 4-1 record, the Lakers currently sit in third place, three points out of second and four out of first place.
The Lakers hosted the Trent Excalibur Saturday afternoon and jumped out to an early lead, then hung on for a 4-2 victory.
Nipissing wasted no time getting on the board, scoring 30 seconds into the contest.
Bella Nolte found the back of the net early, giving the Lakers an early advantage and putting them up a goal.
Not long after the opening goal,
Hannah Neville doubled the Lakers lead, putting Nipissing up 2-0 after nice ball movement.
As time began winding down in the half,
Rylee Traicoff buried the Lakers third goal and extended the Nipissing lead.
Nolte added her second goal of the game, making it 4-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.
Trent did answer, getting on the board with less than two minutes left in the opening 45 minutes.
With the Lakers up 4-1 after the first half, Trent managed to generate some offence in the second half, closing the gap to within two goals.
Nipissing locked things down in last few minutes of the game, hanging out and grabbing another three points.
Nipissing closes out the weekend and Homecoming against Ontario Tech Sunday afternoon.
Game time is set for Noon at the Nipissing Turf Field.
