The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team is finally wrapping up the first half of their schedule – sort of.
After their final game of 2024 was postponed due to floor conditions, the Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs were back on the court Sunday to close out the final two quarters.
It took over a year to complete, by the Lakers managed to hang on for an 83-79 win over their rivals from Laurentian.
The Lakers led 28-19 after the opening quarter and 46-35 at the halftime break.
They extended their lead to 51-43 at the time of the stoppage, which is where the game was picked up.
After three quarters, the Lakers held a 66-56 advantage, taking a 10-point lead into the final frame.
Laurentian fought back, closing the gap and they got the deficit to single digits, but the comeback fell short as the Lakers came away with the win.
Nipissing had five players in double digits, led by
Alex Blackmore with 24,
Jean Rene Brutus Escalona had 14,
Darnaz Mabanza and
Ricardo Neves each scored 11 and
Douglas Junior Owusu Ansah added 10 in the victory.
Next up, the Lakers hit the road to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa and the Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
