North Bay, ON - The Nipissing Women's Basketball team took down the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 77-50 in OUA basketball action on Friday, November 14th at RJS Student Athletics Centre.
Nipissing lead 18-16 after a back-and-forth quarter to open the game. Nicole Budd scored 8 in the first, and Sophie Milner added 5 for the Lakers.
The Lakers took charge of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Ridgebacks 27-6 in the frame. Katelyn Decook scored 10 points in the second and added 4 rebounds to lead the Lakers attack. Avery Walker added 6 points, and Sydney Lake had 5 in the quarter as Nipissing took a 44-23 lead into halftime.
In the third, the Lakers and Ridgebacks battled closely, trading shots and baskets at either end. Nipissing won the quarter 19-16. Nicole Budd has 4 in the quarter; Sophie Milner, Taryn Gauthier, and Kately DeCook each scored 3. The Lakers played solid defensively this quarter, limiting perimeter shots and stifling Ontario Tech's attack. Nipissing lead 63-39 after 3 quarters.
The fourth quarter meant closing time for the Lakers, who looked determined to get the job done and leave with their 3rd straight win. Taryn Gauthier lead the Lakers with 4 points in the final frame. The Lakers won 77-50, winning the fourth quarter 14-11.
Leading scorers for the Lakers were Katelyn DeCook with 15, Nicole Budd with 14, and Taryn Gauthier with 11. Sophie Milner and Sydney Lake each stole the ball 3 times.
Nicole Budd also had 7 total rebounds and 7 assists.
The Lakers now move to 3-4 on the season with their third win in a row. They look to continue their hot streak on Saturday, November 15 at 4PM vs. Queen's Gaels.
