Ottawa, ON – Nipissing Men's Hockey fell 2-1 in overtime to the Carleton Ravens on the road Sunday, November 16.
The first 20 minutes produced no scoring for either side. Power plays were plentiful for either team, as Nipissing had 2 chances on the man advantage, and Carleton had 3. Nipissing goalie Zach Roy stopped all Ravens attacks net in the frame. Shots were 9-4 for the Lakers.
The second period was again full of penalties and power plays. Carleton had 3 infractions, including a 10-minute misconduct at 13:36. Just 6 seconds into the power play, Ken Belanger scored his 5th goal of the season, assisted by Alex Beaulac and Kyle Foreman, giving the Lakers the 1-0 advantage. Carleton managed a good push in this period, amassing 13 shots on the Nipissing net. Zach Roy again stopped everything coming his way, and the Lakers took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
Maddox Amaral of the Lakers took a 2-minute tripping penalty at 8:35 of the third. Carleton got moving on their power play, before Markas Samenas took a high sticking penalty, giving the Ravens a short 5-on-3 advantage. The Lakers would kill the first penalty, but Carleton wouldn't let this opportunity pass as Nick McCarry tied the game at 1 at 11:07. The Ravens' Andrew Hunt took an interference penalty at 11:44, however Nipissing was unsuccessful in taking the lead.
Down the stretch in the third period, Lakers goalie Zach Roy made several key saves to keep the game tied. He stopped 13 of 14 Carleton shots in the frame.
This contest needed extra time. A lost face-off early gave the Ravens a 2-on-1 chance, and again Zach Roy stopped the attack. Unfortunately, Majid Kaddoura of Carleton beat Roy on a wrap-around play at 4:30 in overtime to win the game for the Ravens.
Nipissing picked up a point in this overtime loss. Zach Roy was fantastic, stopping 33 of 35 shots on net.
Nipissing now sits 7-6 record-wise, tied for 3rd in the East Division with 16 points. The Lakers are back in action November 15th when RMC travels to North Bay for a matchup at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens. Puck drop is 7:30PM.
