Box Score North Bay, ON – The Nipissing Lakers Women's Volleyball team lost a close match to the Western Mustangs on Friday, November 28.
The first set opened with the Lakers leading 11-5. Western went on a run, and eventually brought the score to 11-10. The Mustangs then took the lead at 15-12, before Nipissing tied the match at 16 apiece. The teams traded points back and forth before Western scored four in a row to take a 22-18 lead. Western eventually would close out the set, winning 25-22.
The second set found Nipissing and Western tied at 10-10 as the teams traded points back and forth to begin. Western scored three in a row, leading 13-11. Nipissing would keep pace, eventually cutting the score to 19-18 for Western. The Mustangs scored 2 points in a row at 20 and 21, before Nipissing answered with 2 of their own, the score being 21-20 Lakers. Western then took 3 in a row, including a service ace, to lead 24-20. Cassie Robinson and Oceane Raymond-Leduc would each contribute a kill, but Western would close out the set, winning 25-23.
The third set began like the first two, as Western and Nipissing each scored one after another inside the team's first 10 points. Western would take a 13-10 lead before the Lakers would get back into the game, cutting the deficit to 1. Western then scored 3 in a row before Nipissing answered with 2 of their own. The Lakers scored 5 of the next 6 points to erase Western's lead and take a 19-18 advantage. The Mustangs answered, leading 20-19. Nipissing's Addison Hannivan scored the Lakers 20th point, tying the contest. Western then took 3 of the next 4 points to end the match, winning 3-0.
Oceane Raymond-Leduc led the way for Nipissing, scoring 15 kills, 10 digs, and a service ace. Maya Macmillan scored 6 kills of her own, adding 6 digs. Anna Marie Horvat had 4 kills and 6 digs.
The loss moves Nipissing to 2-7 on the season.
