The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team is battling their way out of a little bit of a rut as they look to finish the season strong.
The Lakers dropped their Friday game against Waterloo and the two teams were back at it Saturday afternoon.
Nipissing battled their way to a 4-3 overtime win, splitting the weekend series and earning their way back into the win column.
Unlike the low-scoring game Friday, the teams combined six goals through two periods, with teams all tied up at 3-3.
Waterloo jumped out to a 2-0 lead before
Tyson Tomasini and
Frank Jenkins tied the game for the Lakers.
Kyle Foreman put Nipissing ahead, but the Warriors would tie things up shortly after, making it 3-3.
With things knotted up in the third, the offence dried up and overtime was needed to decide the game.
Charlie Johnson sent the fans home happy, chipping in a nice pass from
Payton Vescio to give the Lakers the victory.
Zach Roy was back between the pipes, finishing with 35 saves, while the Lakers had 33 of their own.
The Lakers are back at home next weekend as they host the Windsor Lancers for a pair of games.
Friday's contest is set for 7pm, while Saturday's is 4pm – both at Memorial Gardens.
